The most cost effective way to get to know yourself is to get a really good mirror; the kind with wings so you can see yourself from multiple angles. The best mirror for me however, is other people. And I take what they say with a grain of salt, but I do take it in. An unsolicited comment is worth a lot.
When someone says to you “I love your shirt”, it means that your shirt is lovely, but maybe not the best match for you. But if someone says you look great or guesses that you had your haircut, or started using moisturizer, then whatever you are wearing is doing its job. Your clothes should support your goals. And if looking beautiful or good is a goal, and someone complements you and not the clothing, then good job! You’ve achieved your goal. You have clothes that bring out your best.
This is all-well-and-good for a one-time success, but how does one do this consistently? …With practice.
How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.
The same is true for dressing… but you need feedback and a way to process the feedback.
How do you practice creating a terrific look consistently?
Find a place where you get accurate and supportive feedback. The more times you get it right the more positive comments you will receive. If you get it wrong, then a supportive comment is needed to get you back on the right track. Some of us have great friends/sisters/moms/aunts, to provide supportive advice and others do not.
If you join a style class you can get the feedback you need to learn how to dress to bring out your best (and if you do not like the class you can leave easily. Unlike family… sometimes you can never get rid of them). Class suggestion:
