Everything is in relationship with something else….All The World’s A Stage
This is the time of year when many people are “front and center” in everyone’s eyes as Graduations, Weddings and professional awards and events are gearing up. Here are some things to keep in mind if you are preparing for a special event where all eyes will be on you. In particular, events where you will be in front of an audience on stage:
- If you are sharing the stage, keep in mind that the nature of the event and who should is the focus or “talent.” The type of clothing, formality, color palette and style keys-off the “talent.”
- Then, consider the clothing that compliments your body design. Be sure it contrasts with the background ~ this is not a time to be a wall flower! Curtain or staging that will be behind you should blend nicely with your outfit. Blend not match. If the curtain is navy blue, then wear something lighter than navy. If your outfit is too close in value to the background, your body will disappear and you will look like a floating head on the stage.
- Contrast is good, but too much contrast is not good. For example, when contrasting a navy blue, or bright red background with a white outfit, the video will not be able to handle the difference between your outfit and the background, something will get washed out, and it will likely be you.
- If there will be a dark or very light background, then choose medium valued clothing that contrasts with the background. The camera will LOVE you! And be sure they are colors that look good on you.
- Another consideration is to make sure there is enough color difference between your hair and the background, so we can find you…. Blonde hair on white background will not show up. Dark hair on dark background will not show up. If your hair is blonde and the background is unexpectedly light, instead of loosing your head, think royal wedding put on a cute hat.
- Practice makes perfect….To know for sure… Play with a video recorder in choosing your outfit and your stage. Get a stylist with a video camera on your team to play with you and your look before the big event. It is always easier to make changes before ~ than after the shoot.
You deserve to be the Star of the event and if you choose your outfit strategically, the camera will reward your efforts so you can enjoy the photos and films of this event for years to come!
