I came across an article about Flutter Eyewear in More magazine. Flutter Eyewear was founded by Patti Lee-Hoffman and Gayle Haworth, two professionals from San Francisco. Both women had difficulty finding sophisticated, stylish reading glasses to fit their faces. They had slim results finding fashionable readers in stores, and even more difficulty shopping on-line. Their personal frustration with this process led them to found Flutter Eyewear: Flutter offers “gorgeous glasses for stylish women” and provides a pleasurable online shopping experience that filters the eyeglass options for different face shapes and sizes. I decided to see for myself, what Flutter is all about. After all, what better way to add color and style to your look than with an eye-catching pair of readers!
I found the website to be clean and easy to navigate. Not too cluttered or overwhelming. I enjoyed looking around the site to get my bearings and was impressed with the inspirational “Look Book” section.
Following my dose of inspiration, I went straight to the “Perfect Fit” tab to find out how to get started. They have tools to help you determine:
-
-
- Face Shape (to help you find the perfect frames for your face shape)
- Lens Power (to determine magnification)
- Paper Dolls (templates of the frames to print out, cut out, and try on for fit)
- Try On (a virtual try on application that works with your own uploaded photo).

FACE SHAPE
I started with the face shape tool. First, I uploaded my photo, and then had the opportunity to determine my face shape. Lucky me, I’m an oval so the first shape was a perfect fit. That didn’t stop me from trying out the other shapes – just to be sure, and because I was just starting to have fun!
LENS POWER
Then I went to the lens power tool to determine the proper magnification. The tool is a fun paper chart that you download, print, and read to determine the appropriate power. Unfortunately, I wear prescription strength glasses and I need a stronger power than their highest 2.50 magnification. But that didn’t keep me from looking. If I find frames I like, I can have my optometrist fit the lenses.
TRY ON
Next I went shopping! I clicked the shopping page, selected readers, and used the filter tool to find glasses to fit my oval, medium sized face. There were plenty frames to choose from!
I instantly liked the Angela pair and chose “Starry Night” a grey and black tortoise shell color to compliment my salt and pepper hair. I really like the way they look!
I tried on lots of styles!
PAPER DOLL
The Angela “Starry Night” pair were by far my favorite. I used the Paper Doll tool to download a template, printed them at 100%, taped them together, and tried them on ~ Voila!
ACCESSORIES
Once I chose my readers, I was ready to choose sunglasses, a stylish necklace/ eyeglass holder and carrying case!
Flutter eyewear has got it right. If you are in that growing number of people who can’t order from a menu without grabbing a pair of readers, and if you want to expand your style statement, then visit Flutter eyewear ~ you won’t be disappointed!
