Shelter In Place with a Fresh Perspective

by | Jun 16, 2020 | Wardrobe Building

While the mandates to “Shelter in Place” have started to lift in areas throughout California, you may want to continue to shelter in place to avoid getting caught in a potential second outbreak.

So while you continue to shelter, it’s important to give yourself a lift.

I recommend you dress up a little!Mary Lou wearing turquoise

It may still be a relaxed look. And some people think they can get away with dressing from the waist up. But I say do it all the way.

Visit your closet and find the clothes that fit right now. Put them front and center.
Then, dig out the accessories, shoes and jewelry that are right for the season.

Anything that is a little too tight or too loose or just not you, move it to the side, store it somewhere else or give it to someone who would enjoy it more than you.

Small gifts of kindness are sincerely appreciated by all, especially right now.

It could make someone else very happy—so give it to them. Give them a lift. It is time for that object to go live in someone else’s closet.

And maybe they will return the favor and find something for you in their closet. I have gotten some of my favorite things in these exchanges.

With what fits and is right for the season, get creative. Put together an outfit. Tops, bottoms, light jackets and sweaters, scarves, shoes, jewelry, etc.

Play with different combinations and always go as far as you can. Complete the outfit—even if it is a stretch. All the way to the shoe, purse and jacket.

Take pictures! Then, create another look!

opportunity. Even if it is for breakfast the next morning or your next business phone call.

It is an act of self-care to get dressed up.

You’ll feel better and those around you will notice—even if it is just someone on the other end of the phone. When you are put together on the outside, it helps you feel put together on the inside.
It really is true. So try it!

And don’t forget to find a home for the items that are no longer yours. That will bring a
smile to someone else’s face. Helping others helps yourself.

Stay safe “Shelter in Place” It is going to be a long haul. We need to stick together.
