Strategic Shopping with PANTONE Color!

by | Feb 12, 2021 | Color

Pantone has released its Color Forecast for the Spring 2021 Colors.

What does that mean for you?

Seasonal colors are planned months and years ahead. PANTONE Color Institute releases a color trend forecast for each season, highlighting the top colors that designers will feature in their products for the upcoming season. These colors will show up in clothing, interiors, and in fabrics for drapes, upholstery, etc. for years to come.

Designers and clothing manufacturers are currently busy working with the Spring/Summer 2021 colors or variations of them for the clothing that will hit the stores in February 2021.

But before you think about shopping. Or decide your wardrobe needs a makeover. Take a look at what colors you have in your closet that you love.

More importantly, think about what colors are in your personal color analysis shopping fan. (Don’t have one? Maybe you should!) Learn about my personal color analysis service and have your colors done right!

Then, use your personal color knowledge to decide which or if any of these new PANTONE colors are for you.

1. Your best colors are the ones that really highlight your personal coloring and personality.
Stick with your tried and true. Choose a new fashion color that coordinates with your existing best color. If the color does not play well with your personal favorites, pass it by.

2. The new PANTONE colors are concept colors.
They all look so bright and strong on this screen. Manufacturers will take the majority of these colors and tone them down. Some will be lighter, softer, grayer or duller than what you see. You need to see them in person to really know. Stick with the color quality (Light and Bright, Soft and Muted, Strong and Pure, etc.) that work with you.

3. If you just have to have the most “in” color this year and it really doesn’t look good on you, buy it in an accessory, a purse, belt, jewelry, casual jacket or trendy piece.
You can always keep for six months and then sell it to an online consignment company. Have fun with the COLOR, but do not invest in it. Buy only a piece or two.

4. When you find that perfect color, invest in it.
Buy a unit of clothing in it. A unit is a bottom or two, several different sleeved tops, jacket or sweater and an outer coat. Then you miss or match these with the Pantone pop colors.

SPRING/SUMMER 2019 Neutrals
Black, White, Navy safe neutrals to mix with the very bright and colorful Pantone 2021 colors. Ultimate Gray is a summer gray and will coordinate with softer versions of the 2021 colors. Check out my blog on Black.

The Mossy green of Sphagnum and odd green of Willow offer a very edgy combination, they offer a very contemporary look when standing up to black.

Got Color!
WOW! Looks like the color designer would like to liven our sprits this coming spring.
These clear strong colors mix well with both the Blacks “Inkwell (Black) and Polar Night (deep twilight blue)” and the whites of Buttercream and Baby’s breath. White with a strong paste is a very Spring trend.

These colors are very much “individuals” and look great with black or white and maybe gray. But difficult to mix and match together. I will be writing more about them soon.

Knowing what colors are right for you, and why that is so, can save you both time and money in the stores. Knowing what colors are right for you can also cut down on frustration when you are having difficulty finding clothes that look and feel right. Once you understand what works for you and why, you can rest assured that if you don’t like the way you look in an outfit there is nothing wrong with you, but there is something wrong with the clothes!
