To go or not to go is the question that many women (and men) are asking as the “Grey Tsunami” approaches. Nothing elicits more opinions both for and against this most natural process. What are the problems of going grey and are there any solutions? But more importantly, what are the benefits of going grey and why do it?
As a person who has chosen to go grey, this is a topic of interest for me. Some of my friends and relatives have stated that it would be over-their-dead-bodies that they would stop coloring their hair. Let’s see what the problems might be and what are the solutions :
Problem: “Grey hair makes me look old.”
Maybe it is not old, but dull. Things (and people) look dull when something else is outshining, or competing with it.
Solution: Choose grey colors to wear that support your hair color and does not compete with it. OK in plain English, wear the same silver, granite, pewter, steel, stone, fog blue, blue smoke, pewter, ash, flint, gray taupe, mercury or charcoal of your hair in your clothes and accessories. Still confused, well there is not one grey, hence so many names with colors to match. Find your grey and wear it. This grey is the one that makes your hair shine and your eye glisten. You will know it by the way it makes you feel. You will know it when someone says you look great, what happened to you?!
Problem: “Grey hair makes me feel invisible.”
I feel like wallpaper. What happened to my pop, my zing, my moxie?
Solution: It didn’t disappear, it just changed and needs to be salvaged. Focus, Focus, Focus. You need to create a focus. You can no longer do it with sheer youth. You need to do it with skill and cunning. Draw positive attention on purpose. Get that edgy haircut to contrast with your greying locks. Wear a unique piece of jewelry that contains the color of your eyes and the sliver of your hair. Identify your best features and highlight them in your own style. Listen to yourself, and when you hear yourself say “I always wanted to wear that, look like that, etc…” ~ DO IT . Show up for yourself and the world.
