Dressing appropriately for a portrait session is the first step in taking a successful picture. Once you have the right outfit, its time to master the look! Here are some tips to help you overcome your camera shyness.
1) Take stock of yourself:
• Fluff your Hair (camera tends to shrink hair –scrunch it right before the shoot)
• Smooth your clothes (bulges and wrinkles may add weight where there is none)
• Give your top a nice tug from behind and make sure the camera side is not puffing out.
• Get your feet underneath you… stand tall, sit up and be fully present and engage the camera.
• Breathe and pull yourself together, now breathe again…
• Angle your body. Facing the camera straight on is rarely flattering. Stand or sit at a more slimming 3/4 angle.
2) Bigger than life
• Sometimes the camera deadens your expression and you may need to exaggerate…listen to your photographer she/he will give you directions by what they are seeing in the lens to cultivate the intended look, (i.e. friendly, trustworthy, serious, romantic. etc…)
3) Master a smile
• Take a breath as you smile and fill yourself with life. Communicate your emotions thru your eyes and face. Keep your jaw open and relax… The blank deer-in-the-headlight look is overrated and never a good choice
3) Imagine the results…Want to look beautiful? Then think of yourself as beautiful. It’s as if the camera can read your mind
