Pantone Colors Are All the Rage…
But Don’t Let the Color Craze Make You Crazy!

Don’t you just love it…Pantone colors are all the rage with the major the clothing lines. For example: “Banana Republic” sends e-mails announcing. ………New Arrivals. I quote, “This summer, dare to mix and mismatch brilliant new hues with graphic prints and pop patterns. Anything goes–and everything looks bright. (Better wear shades.)” And they are using the season’s hottest Pantone colors.

They have 10 items in classic and fun shapes…… great job…..you can mix and match these pieces……

  • Bottoms: Patio Skirt (maxi skirt), Wide Leg Pant, Shorts, Circle Skirt, Maxi dress
  • Tops: Pullover, Elbow–Sleeved Tee, Tank, Shirt, Blazer

But the colors are really difficult to work with IF you want to create a mix and match wardrobe…Pantone colors are great colors on their own. But they cannot be easily mixed and matched…and mismatched color seldom looks good.

I love Pantone colors as a concept , they are pure and the names are as sexy as lipstick colors. Some are brilliant, pure and bold. While others are light and bright, and even others are soft…but never muted. But they do not mix well with each other.

If you cannot mix and match you have just bought a closet full of orphans and you wonder why you have nothing to wear. So my best advice with a collection such as this is start slow and build units as you go.

Pick three colors that go with you and that go together. For example:

Poppy Red, Monaco Blue and White
or
Tender Shoots, Lemon Zest and White
or
Emerald Green, Monaco Blue and Cream or Your Favorite Neutral

Find the Patio Skirt (maxi skirt) or Wide Leg Pant, and get the Elbow–Sleeved Tee with Blazer to all coordinate….or, a shirt with several tanks for variety.

Chose Five easy pieces in no more than three colors….

Buy all the same colors at the same time… next season everything will be different and you will never get the exact match again. And if a color really works, go back when it is on sale and get duplicates of your great looking pieces. Be realistic. You do not need the next “hottest trend”.” You need the pieces that look good on you. Find your style and stick with it. There’s no need to have the color craze make you crazy! Dare to be a classic…
