When it comes to creating winning looks, as an image consultant and personal color expert I love to show people—as well as educate them—why certain styles and colors work well for them. So, you can imagine how thrilled I was when the Miss California organization recently tapped me to become an official sponsor and color expert for the organization!
ColorInsight – Official Sponsor and Color Analyst for Miss California
As a sponsor, I am the personal color consultant for the new Miss California, Eileen Kim, as she prepares for the Miss America 2020 beauty pageant competition this December 19, 2019.
Here is an inside look at a personal color session with the fabulous Eileen Kim. And just as important, we want to share a fresh perspective on what one “all-American” young woman values, and the qualities she believes in, to empower herself and enjoy positive long-lasting growth.
For her color consultation, I recently met with Eileen at the studio of Mary Kasa of MK Expressions, in Dana Point, CA. Mary Kasa is a former student of mine, and now, she is a successful consultant in Southern California. At our first meeting, I was struck by how wonderful and genuine Eileen was as she talked about her experience in the Miss California competition. Dedicated to making the most of her talents and capabilities, Eileen is also a college student at Chapman University, where she is majoring in Business with a minor in music and is set to graduate early.
We Started Miss California’s Personal Color Analysis with Questions:
Mary and I sat down with Eileen and started our conversation by asking her questions such as “What is your favorite color?”, “What was your favorite color as a child?” and most importantly, “What do you love?”. The answers to these questions and more helped provide insight into her personality. As seasoned color experts, we’ve found that a woman’s best colors not only harmonize with her personal coloring, but with her personality and goals. We are drawn to the things that are most like ourselves.
Color Testing Helped Pinpoint Eileen’s Best Colors
Eileen’s personal color analysis started by doing some color testing. We selected the Vital Spring fan and the Soft Winter fan and held them up to her profile. We took a closer look at the various colors and spent the next few hours fine-tuning a personal color palette that would be best for her.
Personal Color Recommendations for Eileen Kim
We advised Eileen to wear dramatic colors such as Royal Blue and Tulip Red, which would bring out her strong spirit and look fantastic on her. She would also look amazing in Coral, which would give a sense of playfulness to her look. Other vivid colors that would work for her are Deep Peacock, Cobalt Turquoise, and Marine Green, which would definitely put her at the center of attention at the pageant.
The Color Strategy for Eileen’s Miss California Sash
One topic that we paid close attention to was what color sash Eileen should wear during personal appearances. Eileen said she had the option of wearing a white or black “Miss California” sash, but she “loved” the white one, which sparkled with its many rhinestones. This was one of Eileen’s favorite things that she brought to show us. Remember how I mentioned earlier that we are drawn to what is most like ourselves? The shimmery sash was much like Eileen—her warmth and sparkling personality could not be missed when she enters a room. And when she wears the sparkling white sash with a darker color, it provides her best level of contrast. (We found that Eileen had a great sense of color on her own. It was just nice to have someone like us in the professional color analysis field to confirm her choices.)
Color Analysis Helps Eileen Prepare for the Stage and for Life
Mary Kasa and I were both thrilled to help Eileen on her journey to win the Miss California title. However, we also wanted to help support her self-confidence and self-awareness throughout every aspect of her life—especially as she champions her own personal initiatives.
Eileen has taken on an initiative to make a difference in other people’s lives. Her topic of “Self Love: Preventing Self-Harm” was born out of her own personal experience in coming to terms with her own self-confidence. Eileen said, “I want to share my own story to inspire individuals to understand that no matter who they are, where they come from, or the struggles that they’ve been through, they can accomplish anything imaginable.”
As style and personal color experts, both Mary Kasa and I were proud to help an amazing young woman like Eileen shine on the Miss California stage and more importantly, in every stage and situation in her life. We will be there for her as she enters the Miss America Stage on December 19, 2019.
